Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT)
The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology was founded in 1960 as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE). It is one of the country's 31 NITs and top engineering schools. After being renamed VNIT in 2002, the National Institutes of Technology Act of 2007 designated it as an Institute of National Importance. VNIT Nagpur is a co-educational public institution which has a faculty strength of 191.
It is spread across 215 acres of land and provides a quality infrastructure with a whole range of different facilities. Some of the facilities are separate hostels for boys and girls, gym, library, cafeteria, auditorium, medical hospital, WiFi, IT infrastructure, laboratories, alumni associations, and guest room. The university offers a total number of 47 programmes at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels. The main departments of study are sciences, engineering and architecture/planning. As a research institution, it offers four main centres of excellence - CAD/CAM centre, Material Engineering Centre, Centre for Water Resource and Centre for Remote sensing.
